Physiotherapists can work with you to get the most out of hydrotherapy sessions. Our physiotherapists will use their specialist skills and knowledge to direct hydrotherapy for your dog either on its own or in conjunction with other treatments. We can provide an optimum hydrotherapy programme for your dog using knowledge of biomechanics and how the properties of water affect your dog’s movement.
We work with several hydrotherapy facilities throughout the area, using veterinary practices or facilities accredited with the Canine
Hydrotherapy Association to ensure the best treatment for your dog at a place convenient to you. Facilities used include:

Swimming can be of great benefit, especially for dogs which have difficulty weight-bearing for any reason. Pools are designed with access ramps and the physiotherapist may enter the pool to reassure your dog and help him/her perform specific movements and exercises.
The water quality and temperature is maintained and you will be able to dry your dog thoroughly at the facility. Swimming uses water’s resistance and buoyancy to improve muscle function and joint range of movement. Most dogs will grow to love swimming!

The water treadmill can produce great results for a wide range of problems. The water level and treadmill speed can be adjusted to produce a range of therapeutic effects and a tailored treatment program for your dog. The treadmill encourages strengthening of the muscle used for walking.
You will be there at the front to encourage your dog and provided they are introduced in a sympathetic, calm manner most dogs adjust well to this treatment. There is a ramp for access so your dog can walk (or be lifted) in and warm water will be circulated. Physiotherapists may use floats, limb bandages and manual support to help your dog during these sessions. The physiotherapist may also go in the tank with the dog to assist with support or limb placement. |
